Nestled in the heart of Luzerne County, Kingston Township is a vibrant community rich in history, natural beauty, and small-town charm. Established in 1790, the township is home to the picturesque villages of Trucksville and Shavertown and proudly serves a population of over 7,200 residents.
Known as “The Gateway to the Back Mountain,” Kingston Township offers easy access to the scenic, mountainous region that defines northeastern Pennsylvania. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the serene trails and lake at Frances Slocum State Park or enjoy family-friendly recreation at the township-owned Center Street Park and Playground.

As a Home Rule Municipality, Kingston Township operates under a local governance system and Home Rule Charter, allowing for more tailored management of its community’s needs. Our Home Rule Charter was adopted on January 1, 1976.
The township has a total area of 13.9 square miles with approximately 50 miles of roadway.
In December 2024, the Kingston Township Board of Supervisors adopted and approved an official flag, further solidifying the township’s identity and pride in its history and community. The flag represents the township’s unique characteristics, geography and heritage.
